7 Things

So my friend Megain tagged me with this:

We all know I do not deserve any type of blog award but I'm bored so I figured I would play along. I am supposed to post 7 random things about myself. Here goes (beware- they are very random):
  • Like Megan, who tagged me, I like numbers. I am really good with percentages. That’s probably because I am a lifelong Hudson’s shopper. Numbers also help me relax. My favorite place to relax is the shower and I figure out my budget in there, figure out how I can pay off notes sooner and then snowball payments for other things, balance my checking account in my head. Sometimes I have to write on the steamed up shower door to keep track! ha... does that make any sense to anyone out there?

  • I often wear mismatched socks because I HATE folding/matching socks. It doesn't bother me that I might be wearing 2 different black socks or 2 different ankle socks. Winter is great for me because I can wear one ankle sock and one black sock with boots and no one will know! I do care that Jay puts Lennox in mismatched socks though. I don't want to look like a bad mom who doesn't buy her kid socks!

  • I don't like to watch movies, especially sad ones. I think it comes down to the fact that I can't separate myself from other people's feelings. Is that too much empathy? sympathy? Anyway, I get too emotionally involved and I just can't get over it. Last weekend I did watch The Green Mile and then I watched Deliverence. I'm still losing sleep over what happened in those 2 movies. Most people can't understand how I feel. They tell me it's "just a movie" but the fact is that most movies are just captions of what really happened in someone's real life. I have my own problems... I don't want to deliberately take on the problems of strangers! Geez. That's why I hate movies.

  • I am a dirty car person. That's not a secret to anyone who does now or ever has known me. I think it's genetic. My mom used to be a dirty car person and my sister is the queen of the dirty car. I just have an aversion to taking things about of my car when I pull into my driveway. I feel that it's my right to just jump out and go inside... that's why at any given time there could be 4 dirty food containers, 3 old sippy cups, 47 pieces of mail from weeks/months/years past, 5 empty coffee cups, etc. I’m not a dirty person, just a dirty car person.

  • I hate routines. Megan said in her list that she loves them. I just don't. I don't get to work at the same time... EVER. My arrival ranges from 5 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. just depending on what I feel. We never eat at the same time at my house. Dinner might be ready at 5pm or 9pm. I can't stand the thought of buying the same groceries every week or doing the same chores or driving the same routes. I just don't like it. I feel oppressed in a routine. Maybe I am just disorganized and that's why I can't get into a routine so, in turn, I just decide that I don't like routines?! WHAT? I know. Anyway, having a kid has helped me some. I was initially the mom whose NB might take 5 naps a day or 2 long naps or no naps or whatever... you see what I'm saying. As he has gotten older though, I do try to give him some structure (I know that's good for kids) so he knows when it's time for naps or bed or dinner... I do think that my lack of routine has made my child very flexible. That's a good thing!

  • The real reason I don't blog much is because I don't have internet at home! GASP... I know. Isn't that old school?! Well, here is the thing, we did try to get internet when we moved in. We have DirectTV and so we ordered the modem for the internet. Well, low and behold, we don't have DSL access in our area... isn't that the right term? Then, cable internet was the next option but Jay wouldn't give up the DirectTV so we couldn't bundle and that's like $60/month! HELLO... didn't I say we have a budget written on the shower door? Well, it doesn't include $60 for internet. Plus, I am on the computer all day at work so I don't really need it at home... except that Facebook,Yahoo,MySpace, and every other fun site (besides blogs) are blocked from work. Maybe I'll splurge one of these days.... ha ha

  • Here is the last one... I have crazy dreams and I usually remember them when I wake up. At least a few nights a week, I am exhausted when I wake up because I've dreamed so much. I always dream that I'm still a waitress at Harveys and I am in the weeds like you wouldn't believe. I dream of putting in the computer codes for my orders and I dream them correctly... like 4-no, 52-lemon. Stuff like that... ha.

Anyone else who wants to play along, feel free... I'll be amused.

17 Months - A little Late

Your newest tricks:

  • When Jay says "Down" you take your stance then wait for him to say "set-hut" then you RUN RUN RUN. It is hilarious. You run like someone is really after you. I know Jay is super excited b/c you are starting to run and tackle! Oh, the life of a football coach's son! ha. Your run is so funny. You bend your arms and pull them up even with your arm pits then swish them back and forth as you run. I'm not sure if I should be concerned!

  • You can stand on one foot. Meme taught you that one. You also try to jump... we clap for you but you don't exactly get off of the ground!

  • When someone says "One" you say "TWO!" That's a Granny trick.

  • You try to fold your hands to play "Here's the church, Here's the steeple, open the doors, there's all the people" but you just get the church & steeple. There are no people in your church yet!

  • I think you are learning the ABC song and Jesus Loves Me. You seem to recognize them and hum a tune... You blabber something but it's not really the words.

  • You show me what the babies on the bus do and what the mommys on the bus tell the babies... that is TOO cute. I taught you that one!

  • You know so many animal sounds that I have started to have to make up sounds for animals I don't know sounds for... Rhinoceros, Crabs, Spiders... you remember them though. The cutest ones are the skunk, you hold your nose and say "PEW WEE", and the alligator, you use your hands to make the biting motion and whisper "Chomp Chomp" I don't know why you think alligators whisper
  • You have been telling me you pooped lately. I thought it was a fluke but you say "Poop" and say "Uh Huh" when I ask if you really did. I had a serious talk with you about poop and asked you to tell me BEFORE you poop next time. You said "uh huh." Sunday, you came to me and said "poo poo" so I asked if you pooped to which you responded "no." Then you said, "poo poo" so I checked your diaper and said, "Nope... you didn't." So you looked at me and pooped. GREAT! So maybe mommy is stupid but you sure aren't! I guess it doesn't matter much anyway b/c when I try to put you on the toilet, you turn into an unbendable board.
  • You are talking alot alot these days but I think I'll spare everyone and post them for 18 months. (I know you can't wait...)
  • You try to roll over but you pretty much only succeed in putting your head to the ground them falling to the side.
  • You love to sit in chairs like a big boy and, if I don't watch closely, I find you standing on the kitchen table.

You are getting big but I don't know how much you weigh or how tall you are. I do know that your feet are finally growing. I was getting worried that we had a problem for a while.

You still only have 8 teeth. I'm not sure if I should worry about that... you seem to eat everything just fine though (except lettuce).

Your hair is thick and grows super fast. Who knew that you had to get boy's hair cut every couple of weeks!? What a pain.

You are a good sleeper and still take 2 naps if you are home with me. You have always played with your hair when your sleepy but now you twist it in a knot. I guess if you got haircuts more often that wouldn't be possible. Ha.

You still love other kids and like to hug. You did start saying "MINE" to everything and that drives me crazy. I am trying hard to teach you to share. Hopefully it's just a phase.

That's all I can think of right now...

If you're hungry...

My friend, Mel, has a friend who has a really awesome food blog. Check it out: http://elizabethsedibleexperience.blogspot.com/ She posts great pictures and gives you step by step instructions/visuals. I have ventured out of my comfort zone and purchased ingredients I would have never considered. These are some of her recipes that I have tried and LOVED:

Turkey and Artichoke Stuffed Shells with Arrabbiata Sauce

Blueberry Cream Cheese Breakfast Pastry

Wild Rice and Mushroom Soup

Sentences?

Monday night, Lennox woke up crying so I went in to check on him. He was sitting in the middle of his bed and I said "What's wrong man?" He looked at me and said mid cry "I POOOOOEEEEDDDD!" I said, "You pooed?" He nodded his head and said "uh huh." I checked his diaper. Sure enough, he did pooh. So there it is... his first sentence!

This week he is also fond of saying "I want Nack!" (snack) It reminds me of Titan and makes me laugh when he says it.

Nobody puts Lennox in the corner...

except Lennox!

Yesterday Lennox was especially tired after Colt's birthday party but it was too late for a nap and too early for bed. I was trying hard to keep him entertained but he had several meltdowns anyway. Have I mentioned that he's a hitter? (kidding) Well, something didn't go his way so I got a good whack on the head. I put him in the corner and after several rounds of mama vs. Lennox, his timeout was complete. About 10 minutes later, Lennox decided he would try to hit me again. I grabbed his arm and sternly said, "Do you want to go to the corner? Do you like time out?!" He promptly threw himself on the ground, swatted the air, got up and ran to the corner, and threw himself down. He yelled a loud fake cry like he was just so disgusted and outdone with me and the corner! ha. It was so funny I couldn't help but laugh. I wish I had that one on video. What kind of kid puts their self in the corner?!!

Christmas List

Last year, I think I did a pretty good job of limiting my Christmas shopping for Lennox since what he really wanted to play with was wrapping paper and boxes. This year is a different story. I want to buy him EVERYTHING!! He's just a such a fun age right now. I cannot wait to see him open his presents. If you have any suggestions on what your kids actually play with, that would be great. If there is one thing I hate, it's wasting money! I would hate to fill up my house with toys that are not going to get any attention. So far, I am pretty sure I'm going to get him these things:
  • A broom set because he is constantly getting my broom and knocking it on the walls as he carries it through the house. Jay thinks he won't play with the tiny broom but we'll have to see about that.

  • An outdoor play set. I think this one looks fun and big enough to keep his interest for a couple of years. Alot of the others I have looked at were so tiny. I think he might be too big for them in a few months.

  • A kitchen set! I know some of you think this is a girl present but he loves to play with cabinets and open doors and put things inside. I'm not dead set on the Dora kitchen... it has alot of pink.
