20 months
You are saying new words everyday. Just about anything you can repeat but your F's are B's or P's... like fish is "Pish." You have started saying these Alot "OOoo.What dis?" or "ooooOOoo. Who Dat?"
You went on your 3rd airplane ride & cooperated very well. I don't know how people fly alone with toddlers for more than 1.5 hours. I exhausted every means of entertaining you, as well as, myself. You were apparently paying lots of attention at the airport and in the plane. We were watching a show (Golden Girls) and Rose was getting off the plane in the terminal, You said... Oooo... Airpane. In your landscapes book you point at the lake and say "Airpane" because that's what you saw most of the way flying over the swamps.
Out of no where you started recoginizing fleur de lis' and saying "saints."
You went to your 18 month checkup and were 26.2 lbs. Still 2 lbs less than before you had pneumonia. You were 32.5" long but I think that was wrong. You were having a fit & the nurse gave zero effort at accuracy. You were off of your growth curve so that's why I think it's wrong.
I still can't get you to say Lennox, I love you, please, or thank you. Hmmm... I think you're tricking.
I think we're entering the terrible two's or else you've been in a very bad mood lately. You are whining alot and having a fit over nothing... not that fits are new. You usually get REALLY ticked off when I tell you no but you obey, somewhat. Lately you just fall apart over everything though. Maybe it's one of my favorites excuses that "you're just tired" or "you're off your schedule!"
Also, just yesterday I told you no and you yelled NO in my face. Then I grabbed your hand and said "Stop it... you don't tell mommy no" and you said "You STOP!" UGHHHHHHHH.... If only we had not been in a restaurant at the time, I think we could have made that whole "you don't tell mommy no" a little more clear. I also attribute this bad behavior to being in presence of grandparents. You know that they let you do whatever you want so you just try to get away with being sassy pants in front of them. I was informed that "they don't teach him that." Well, duh. Nor do you teach him any rules. Oh, my bp is rising so I'll stop...

19 Months
- I say "L" you say "E." I say "N-N" and you say "O X!" I have no clue if you know what you're doing but you do have a good memory. Last night in the tub you did pick up an L and say "L" then and O and say "O."
- You actually shoot the basketball at the goal and you have made it a few times. If you make it, you say "YESTH" and if you miss you say "Oh Man" or "I MISTHED." Yes, I think we have a potential lisp! ha.
- You are getting good at eating soup but you prefer to drink out of the bowl... or "gink" it.
- You sit on the potty before bathtime and say "PSSSSTTTTT" but nothing comes out, even when you grab it and squeeze... not sure why you think that will work!
- You don't really call animals their names you just tell me the sound they make. I asked you if you wanted a bite of rotissiere chicken and you kept saying "bock bock" when you wanted more.
Developments:
- When you jump, both feet clear the ground.
- You are great at throwing and have started trying to catch.
- You learned how to hit the ball with the bat if the ball is still.
- You can hit the golf ball with the golf club
- You finally got a molar... just one though
- You still tell me when you have poop. You still won't poop in the potty.
- You seem to be catching on to colors and shapes. I thought the color situation was just not going to happen any time soon but on Monday you pointed to a dinosaur on your PJs and said "Yellow" and then pointed to another one and said "Red." You were right and I was impressed.
- You can drink out of a big cup without a sippy top but you can't get it off the table and carry it to the living room without spilling... and then stomping through it and wiping it with your hands.
What you love right now:
- Taking tops off of bottles or lids off of containers then putting them back on.
- Your books and your balls. Why did I waste so much money on the other toys.
- Melmo & Dora and you've developed a new love for Mouth... (Mickey Mouse Club House)
- Your pappey (pacifier). I know you shouldn't really have it at all or at least only in bed but I just think it's cute when you ask for Pappey... I guess I need to take it away soon. That's going to be painful.
- You sleep with your 2 stuffed Elmos, pappey, and your stuffed football. You try to gather them all up to take with you when you wake up.
- then the same old stuff you've always loved: Grandparents, animals, outside, baths, snacks
We still haven't made if for your 18 month visit but when you went in the first time with pneumonia you weighed 28.2 lbs. They didn't measure your length.

Down & Out
- 9 am - get into cabinet and dump out 2 boxes of Capri Suns. Spend about 5 mins trying to poke straws in as many of them as possible. Squirt them across kitchen like rockets... hear mom coming and jump up and run to living room
- 9:05 - rake all of books off of book shelf. Sit in middle of books and look at pages them spit on a few of them.
- 9:08 - run full speed to mom's bathroom (while she's still cleaning capri sun mess). Dig in drawers and dump out q-tip box.
- 9:12 - Run full speed into living room with 2 handfuls of q-tips. Lick a few of them then throw them in the air like rain.
- 9:15 - Run into kitchen and pull out spice rack. Quickly grab some jars of spices and try really hard to get tops off. Mom comes and shooshes me away. Turn around to lazy susan cabinet and grab bag of sugar. Dump it on the floor. All of it!!
- 9:20 - While mom cleans up sugar dumped on floor, run to kitchen table and climb on top. Grab butter knife laying beside birthday cake and hack away til mom sees me and screams.
- 9:25 - 9;27 - Sit in time out for stabbing cake & dumping out sugar all the while yelling "WEEEEEE!" like you would when swinging.
- 9:27 - Copy mom saying "UGHHHHHHHHH" very loudly as I watch her clean up cake.
- 9:29 - Run into living room with stray capri sun, squirt it all over books.
- 9:32 - Run away from mom as she comes toward me with yogurt and spoon. Take a bite of yogurt after much begging then promptly spit it all over self.
- 9:34 - Slap spoon of yogurt all over mom as she tries to put it in my mouth. Laugh and run away saying "NO!!"
- 9:36 - Run to couch and lay all over it making sure to wipe yogurt onto upholstery.
- 9:40 - Find myself in bed for an early nap b/c mom can't take it anymore!!!
YOu see why I was looking forward to work?! ha. I am worn out!

How do you explain to an 18 month old...
- That Sesame Street and Dora do not run 24 hours a day for your viewing pleasure. Regardless or how many times you point the remote at the tv and say "STRREEEET" or "DORDA" they won't magically appear. Even if you throw yourself down on the ground and kick and scream yelling "MELMO!!!", they still won't appear. I guess you can keep trying that tactic though.
- That potatoes, oranges, apples, limes, lemons, avocadoes, and onions are not balls. I know they are round like balls but when you throw them, they will not bounce like balls... sometimes they even explode.
- That pretend food is only meant for pretend eating. I know the cookie looks like a real cookie but not matter how hard to bite it or how many times you throw it against the wall, it still won't be a real cookie! (he's actually almost figured this one out)
- That telling mommy you pooped after the fact doesn't help that much! (I know he's young so it's good that he even recognizes that he pooped and he tells me... this one was just good for my list)
- That if I tell you not to go into the spice cabinet and you do it anyway, you will have to sit in time out. AGAIN. Time out is a punishment not a right of passage... you do not get to play in the spice cabinet after you get out of time out either.
- That if I take your shirt off, I have a reason. You don't have to freak out. You might be cold for a minute but I will either put you in the bath or I will put another shirt on you... it is cute when you scream "It's TOLD" & shiver though.
- That regardless of how much I love you, I cannot spend my whole day holding you up to the top hinge on the china cabinet so you can touch it and make the lights go on and off. Screaming and hitting the air will not give me more time or more strength to hold you up there!
- That each and every time you fill up the pitcher in the tub with water and pour it out on the floor, bath time will officially be over. Also, when you stand up and jump in the tub you will most likely fall down...
If any of you can shed a little light on explanations for these issues, please advise. :)
